Stay in a Hotel Made of Ice: The Ultimate Bucket List Experience
Could you spend the night in a hotel completely made of ice? If you’re searching for a once-in-a-lifetime winter adventure, you need to visit Hôtel de Glace, the only ice hotel in North America. Located just outside of Québec City, Canada, this stunning seasonal attraction is built entirely from ice and snow. We visited when it was -14°F, and while it was freezing, it was absolutely worth it!
What to Expect at Hôtel de Glace
Even if you don’t stay overnight, Hôtel de Glace is still a must-visit. A day pass lets you explore the entire hotel, where you’ll find intricately carved ice sculptures, breathtaking architecture, and themed suites. Some highlights include:
The Ice Bar, where you can sip cocktails from glasses made of ice.
An Ice Slide, perfect for adding a little fun to your visit.
Exclusive Room Access before 8 PM, giving you the chance to tour the uniquely designed themed rooms before overnight guests check in.
What It’s Like to Stay Overnight
We stayed in a Theme Suite with a Fireplace, and it was an unforgettable experience (literally and figuratively cool!). Here’s what you should know:
You’ll sleep in a thermal sleeping bag designed to keep you warm all night.
The rooms maintain a temperature of about 23-27°F (-5 to -3°C), regardless of how cold it is outside.
Guests also have access to a nearby heated hotel with private lockers, bathrooms, and hot tubs to warm up before bed.
You will also get access to a room at the normal hotel next door, Hôtel Valcartier, just in case you can’t make it in the ice room throughout the entire night.
How to Plan Your Visit
Since Hôtel de Glace is built from scratch every year, it only exists for a few months before melting away. If you want to experience this bucket list-worthy ice hotel, make sure to plan your trip between early January and late March. Book your stay early, as this one-of-a-kind experience is in high demand!
